Hotels in Bangkok: prices, timing and areas
Bangkok is the capital of Thailand, a city of golden temples such as the Grand Palace, Wat Pho with its Reclining Buddha and Wat Arun, of markets led by Chatuchak, of street food and nightlife. Guests often stay longer here, about six nights on average, and split their time between sightseeing, shopping and Thai food. The BTS Skytrain, helped by a Rabbit card, and the boats on the Chao Phraya river are the easiest ways to get around. This list has 3 877 properties, from a hostel bed to five stars by the river. Below is what really drives the price of a stay in Bangkok: the month and day of arrival, the choice of district and the standard of the property.
When to book a stay in Bangkok for less
Bangkok is cheapest in the rainy season. June is usually the bottom of the market, and July is cheap too, when the afternoon downpours keep some visitors away. The priciest is December, in the middle of the cool season, when the weather is at its best and rates can run up to two thirds more than in June. The day of the week matters. The cheapest night is early in the week, Monday, while you pay the most on Tuesday and midweek. Good rates appear close to the date in Bangkok, but for the December peak and the festivals it is better to book ahead.
What a stay costs by property type
Bangkok has a huge range of prices and is one of the cheaper big cities in Asia. The cheapest sleep is in hostels around Khaosan; you pay more for a family room and five stars by the river. Below are indicative nightly rates for two people.
| Property type | Indicative price per night (from) |
| Hostel bed | from approx. THB 300 |
| Three-star hotel | from approx. THB 700 |
| Four-star hotel | from approx. THB 1,000 |

| Five-star hotel | from approx. THB 1,300 |
Where a stay is cheaper and where it costs more
Most people look for a room in Sukhumvit, the long artery full of hotels, bars and BTS stations, because from here you can reach everywhere easily. The dearest is business Silom, the financial heart of the city, where prices run highest in Bangkok. The cheapest is outlying Lat Phrao in the north, several times cheaper than the average. For backpackers Khaosan is the classic, and for views and quiet the riverside area is good. Below are indicative rates by district.
| District | Indicative price per night (from) |
| Lat Phrao, the cheapest outlying area | from approx. THB 800 |
| Sukhumvit, the most popular artery with BTS | from approx. THB 3,400 |
| Silom, the business centre, the dearest | from approx. THB 12,600 |

Which stay in Bangkok suits whom
- First time in Bangkok. Sukhumvit by a BTS station is the easiest base. From here you quickly reach the temples, the malls and the night markets, skipping the traffic.
- For families. Hotels with family rooms near the BTS and the sights, such as Siam Kempinski. From here it is easy to reach the parks, aquariums and malls.
- For couples. Boutique places and hotels with a view along Sukhumvit and by the river. Everything is a short hop from here for dinner, a rooftop bar and a stroll.
- With breakfast. Many hotels, such as the Bangkok Marriott The Surawongse, include a generous breakfast, which helps you set off early for the temples before the heat.
- For backpackers. Hostels and cheap rooms around Khaosan Road are the classic, close to the bars, the food and the boats to the river.
- Near the airport. Hotels by Suvarnabhumi, such as the Hyatt Regency, suit an early flight or a night layover. The Airport Rail Link reaches the centre from here.

When Bangkok costs more
The dearest is the cool season, from November to February, peaking in December, when the weather is at its best and the city is full of visitors. It is dear too around the festivals, such as November Loy Krathong with its lanterns on the water and April Songkran, the Thai New Year with its water fight. In the rainy season, from June to October, the afternoon downpours keep some guests away and prices fall to their lowest of the year. The hot season, from March to May, can be cheap too.
